Discover Hythe
There is a jewel that sits at the end of the enchanting High Street of Hythe, Kent... Henrys Wine Bar and Chocolate Café.
Tucked away on the Kent coast between Folkestone and Romney Marsh, Hythe is one of those places that rewards you for taking your time in it.
With its historic High Street, independent shops and cafés, long seafront, Royal Military Canal and centuries of history, Hythe makes an ideal destination for a day out, weekend away or a slower escape to the Kent coast.
An Historic Kent Coastal Town
Hythe's history stretches back centuries. Once an important member of the Cinque Ports, the town grew around its relationship with the sea and has retained much of its historic character.
Today, the centre of Hythe is a mixture of historic buildings, independent businesses, places to eat and drink and the sort of small shops that make exploring a town on foot, worthwhile.
The High Street remains very much at the heart of Hythe. Rather than simply being somewhere to pass through, it is worth allowing time to wander, browse and stop along the way.

Things to do in Hythe
One of the pleasures of visiting Hythe is that many of its attractions can be explored on foot.
A walk beside the Royal Military Canal is a good place to start. Built as part of Britain's defences during the Napoleonic period, today the canal provides a peaceful route through the town and surrounding countryside.
From there, head towards the coast. Hythe's seafront and promenade offer long views across the English Channel and plenty of space for a coastal walk before heading back towards the town centre.
Another of the area's best-known attractions is the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway. The historic miniature railway runs from Hythe across Romney Marsh towards Dungeness and makes a memorable addition to a day exploring this part of Kent.
For those interested in history, the town itself also deserves attention. Hythe contains buildings from several periods of its long history, while the parish church of St Leonard's sits above the town and is one of its most distinctive landmarks.
Explore Hythe High Street
Make time for the High Street rather than treating it simply as the route back to the car.
Hythe has retained a strong independent character, with small shops, cafés, pubs, restaurants and bars sitting alongside its historic buildings.
It also makes a natural stopping point during a day exploring the town.
At 152–154 High Street, you'll find Henry's, where visitors can settle in for coffee and something sweet during the day or enjoy food and a glass of wine as the day moves on.
Its location makes it particularly convenient if you're exploring Hythe on foot: wander the High Street, walk the canal or seafront and then come back into town for something to eat or drink.
And when the Kent weather allows, Henry's south-facing garden provides somewhere to sit outside and slow things down for a while.

Eating and drinking in Hythe
Food and drink are increasingly part of the experience of visiting Kent's coastal towns, and Hythe is no exception.
You'll find everything from traditional pubs and cafés to restaurants, independent bars and places for a relaxed glass of wine.
Henry's fits comfortably into that side of Hythe life.
During the day, the Chocolate Café offers locally roasted coffee, teas, cakes and handmade hot chocolate, while later in the day the emphasis moves towards food, wine and drinks.
It's deliberately relaxed — somewhere that works as well for an afternoon stop while exploring Hythe as it does for meeting friends for a glass of wine.
Dogs are welcome too, which is particularly useful if your visit to Hythe includes a walk along the coast or canal.

A simple day in Hythe doesn't need a complicated itinerary.
Start with a walk beside the Royal Military Canal before exploring the historic town centre and High Street. Stop for coffee, browse the independent shops and then head towards the seafront for a walk along the coast.
If you have more time, take a trip on the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway or use Hythe as a base for exploring Romney Marsh and the wider Kent coast.
Then head back into the High Street.
You'll find Henry's Wine Bar & Chocolate Café at 152–154 High Street, right in the heart of town — an easy place to finish the afternoon over coffee, meat, cheese and dessert platters or a glass of wine before heading home.
